In the boundless realm of Multimedia Arts, Ryan Yap, a student from the College of St. Benilde, showcases the fusion of tradition and technology in his creative endeavors. Since 2019, Ryan has turned his childhood love for drawing into a career as a graphic designer, specializing in visual identity and editorial layouts.
Ryan's knack for art led him to design posters, magazines, and article banners. His journey took a turn when he worked at an agency, gaining professional experience. The pandemic sparked a surge in interest in art, increasing the demand for visual content and providing Ryan with more opportunities.

As a graphic designer working with student publishing organizations, Ryan creates posters that reflect student journalists' articles. He meticulously extracts and interprets information from the articles, weaving them into visually compelling designs that resonate with the audience. By identifying key words and discerning the prominence of various ideas, a foundation is laid to craft a meaningful and coherent visual narrative.

In the midst of his journey as a graphic designer, Ryan has incorporated artificial intelligence into his workflow prominently. Using AI primarily as a retouching method in photography, he explains its efficiency in tasks such as extending backgrounds, removing unwanted elements, and cleaning images using the content-aware fill tool in Photoshop. He notes that AI generally allows him to work faster and more accurately,
“AI works so much faster and mas accurate siya depending on what I ask it to do”
providing him with the freedom to explore new tools and techniques.
However, Ryan acknowledges the challenges of relying on AI, such as the risk of unintentional plagiarism due to its tendency to generate similar content. He emphasizes using AI as a tool for ideation rather than a source of final work, advocating for conscious usage to maintain artistic integrity. He personally utilizes AI as a tool to fuel his ideation and not replace his
creative mind, while also translating AI-generated outputs into text and manually searching for similarities, ensuring the final work is a product of one's original ideas and execution.
